Geography

At Alma Primary, we are becoming jubilant geographers!

We want our children to love geography as we believe that geography helps to provoke and provide answers to questions about the natural and human aspects of the world. We want our children to develop a greater understanding and knowledge of the world, as well as their place in it. The geography curriculum enables children to develop knowledge and skills that are transferable to other curriculum areas. There are no limits to what their ambitions are. At Alma, we provide a purposeful platform allowing for exploration, appreciation and an understanding of how our world has evolved to the present day.

At Alma, we believe that geography helps to provoke and provide answers to questions about the natural and human aspects of the world. Children are encouraged to develop a greater understanding and knowledge of the world, as well as their place in it. The geography curriculum enables children to develop knowledge and skills that are transferable to other curriculum areas as well as promoting their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

Geography is, by nature, an investigative subject, which develops and understanding of concepts, knowledge and skills. At Alma, we want to inspire in children a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people which will remain with them for the rest of their lives. We want to promote the children’s interest and understanding of diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes. We want our children to learn about the wider world as well as their local area and to understand the similarities and differences between different countries, cultures and areas. Our thematic based curriculum is designed for our children to develop knowledge and skills that are progressive, as well as transferable, so that they can take their learning throughout their time at Alma, to their further education and beyond.
