Topic & Art

Year 4 get creative.

As part of their topic of “Calendars”, Year 4 have been learning about the lunar calendar and the significance of the moon. They looked at Van Gogh’s painting “Starry Night” and re-created their own versions using oil pastels on black or white paper. We found it really interesting to learn that he painted this when in hospital struggling with his mental health and that art was something which often helped him with this. We discussed the different brush strokes and the contrast of nature with the unnaturalness of buildings. We found it inspiring to learn, after our lesson yesterday about using our imaginations to visualise characters and scenes, that this painting came entirely from Van Gogh’s imagination, unlike his other work!  This is a masterpiece, replicating Van Gogh's painting, from one of our children today!
