Victorian Prison Life!

Thursday 12th March 2020

Today, we came into the classroom and had to the most boring tasks, such as counting string and standing up and sitting down – in complete silence! We later learnt that this was to represent the monotonous tasks Victorian prisoners did day in and day out in order to earn their meals and as a form of punishment.

Before we found out the reasons for having to complete these activities, we said:

“It was so boring.”

“I found it a really tiresome activity.”

“It was pointless.”

I thought it felt like a punishment.”

“I had to really concentrate hard and it was confusing.”

We are using this experience to write our diary entries as a day in the life of a Victorian prisoner!
